PROGRESSIVE APPROACH HELPS STREAMLINE APPROVALS PROCESS EAST ORANGE, N.J., MARCH, 2012 – East Orange has enacted a new zoning ordinance. On January 31, 2012, the East Orange City Council voted unanimously to adopt a comprehensive new code for the entire city that helps remedy the shortcomings of the old zoning code while taking a progressive approach to streamlining the approvals process. The primary purpose is of the new ordinance is to help foster revitalization of the city’s commercial corridors and neighborhoods. (more details)

His legacy of achievement as a public servant for more than 40 years as a local and county legislator and, his historic election as the first African-American to represent the 10th Congressional District gives abundant testimony to a life of extraordinary service and dedication. His distinguished record of leadership as “elder statesman” of New Jersey’s Congressional delegation and, on the national and international stage, epitomizes his unwavering and profound commitment to serve as an advocate for equality and justice for all people. Throughout his extraordinary career he championed many causes, particularly concerning education, jobs and healthcare. He maintained active leadership roles with the Congressional Black Caucus as current chair of its Foundation and he served with distinction as its former chairman. As de facto ambassador to Africa, Congressman Payne brought hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to help reduce the devastating impact of malaria and HIV/Aids on the people of sub-Saharan Africa. May our heartfelt condolences, prayers and expressions of sympathy bring comfort to the members of the Payne family as they mourn the loss of their family Patriarch. They acted out the character. This play is about Dr. Martin Luther King last night in room 306 in a Memphis motel before he was fatally shot.

Bowser, County and State representatives are coming together on October 7th to help “Keep Essex County Litter Free.” and “Slam Dunk the Junk.” “Come on New Jersey - “Slam Dunk the Junk” is the focus of a statewide anti-litter campaign created by the NJ Clean Communities Council to educate people about the proper handling of waste,” says Sandy Huber CEO of NJ Clean Communities. The slogan “Slam Dunk the Junk” is attributed to East Orange Environmental Ambassador, Quamir Payton who at an anti litter campaign event spoke these words. His message is now the motto of East Orange and the State of New Jersey. The PSA featuring Quamir and other East Orange Environmental Ambassadors will be shown on all NJ public and cable stations after Labor Day.

Four New Jersey mayors are among more than 60 city leaders scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama and key members of his Cabinet on Friday. The U.S. Conference of Mayors says Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer, Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage, Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler and East Orange Mayor Robert Bowser will travel to Washington for the meeting. They'll meet with the president at the White House before a separate session with Lisa Jackson, the new head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and former chief of staff to New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine. The mayors also are scheduled to meet with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Attorney General Eric Holder and HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan.

Knayda O Kelly and the Environmental Ambassadors sweep thru the city picking up trash off the city streets. The Environmental Ambassadors are student volunteers from the city's schools. EAST ORANGE, NJ…On Tuesday, September 16, celebrated songstress and East Orange native Dionne Warwick choose the elementary school she once attended and which now bears her name, the Dionne Warwick Institute, as the platform for the initial public presentation of her new children’s book, “Say A Little Prayer” before a teeming house of excited students.  East Orange City officials, including Mayor Robert L. Bowser, Board of Education members and school administrators joined the students in warmly receiving Ms. Warwick and listened attentively as she read excerpts from the autobiographical story. An additional bonus to Ms. Warwick’s visit was a free copy of her book distributed to each student of the school.

The citizens attended in great numbers (possibly several thousand) The food menu consisted of Corn on cob, fried fish, hamburgers, hot dogs, and much more. This was hosted by the Mayor Robert L.
