Peppermint Puppeteers Perform
Environmental Programs in East Orange Schools
The popular Peppermint Puppeteers have presented their fun-filled ecology shows at many East Orange public schools during the month of March. These presentations are sponsored by the East Orange Department of Public Works, Clean and GreenEnvironmentalEducationCenter.
The City’s Environmental Education Coordinator, Knadya O’Kelly, has implemented various environmental programs in the schools. These programs highlight particular environmental issues and the Puppeteer’s presentations will re-enforce these studies. Last week the Puppeteers visited, Ecole Toussaint Louverture where the students are studying “Clean Air” Kids for Clean Air. On March 5th, they visited Gordon ParksAcademy where the students are learning about litter enforcement, and when they visit the WahlstromSchool, they amplified the students’ efforts concerning litter preventionand recycling.
The Puppeteers are honored to be part of East Orange’s extraordinary environmental education outreach program. Each year, they travel to hundreds of schools performing their exciting adventure stories. They have received high accolades from the N.J.D.E.P. for their unique brand of “edu-tainment” that makes learning a fun experience.
The Puppeteers admire the enthusiasm of East Orange students to make positive environmental changes in their community. Among the many achievements of these young citizens is the Adopt a Spot Program, and their current involvement in contacting local officials to establish ordinances to reduce air pollution. They are certainly preparing to live in a future world that’s “Clean & Green”.
